Minister of Islamic Affairs: Saudi Arabia Supports Competitions to Encourage Muslims to Memorize Holy Quran


Sheikh Dr. Abdullatif bin Abdulaziz Al Al-Sheikh, Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Islamic Affairs, emphasized the Kingdom’s enduring commitment to promoting the memorization of the Holy Quran, a core value since its establishment.


His remarks were delivered by Sheikh Dr. Awad bin Sabti Al-Anazi at the national Holy Quran memorization contest for girls in Kyrgyzstan, where the achievements of the King Abdulaziz International Competition were highlighted.


Mufti Abdulaziz Zakirov praised Saudi Arabia’s efforts in supporting Islam and Quran memorization, underscoring the Kingdom’s influential role in global Islamic education and scholarship.


Bishkek, September 5, 2024 — In a significant affirmation of Saudi Arabia’s dedication to Islamic scholarship, Sheikh Dr. Abdullatif bin Abdulaziz Al Al-Sheikh, the Kingdom’s Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dawah, and Guidance, underscored the Kingdom's longstanding commitment to the care and promotion of the Holy Quran. This dedication has been a cornerstone of Saudi Arabia’s values since its establishment, fostering an environment where both men and women are encouraged to memorize and internalize the sacred text.


Sheikh Dr. Al-Sheikh’s remarks were delivered by Sheikh Dr. Awad bin Sabti Al-Anazi, Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry, during the closing ceremony of the national Holy Quran memorization contest for girls. The ceremony took place at the Imam Al-Sarakhsi Mosque in Kyrgyzstan and was attended by a distinguished assembly of political, social, and cultural leaders from various sectors. The event celebrated the achievements of young female memorizers and highlighted the importance of preserving and promoting the teachings of the Quran.


In his speech, Sheikh Dr. Al-Anazi commended the notable success of the King Abdulaziz International Competition for Memorization, Recitation, and Interpretation of the Holy Quran. The competition, which concluded its 44th session last month, saw participation from more than 123 countries, illustrating its global impact and the widespread commitment to Quranic scholarship. The competition is renowned for its role in advancing the understanding and appreciation of the Quranic text worldwide.


Additionally, Mufti Abdulaziz Zakirov, the head of religious affairs in Kyrgyzstan, acknowledged and praised the significant contributions of Saudi Arabia in the service of Islam and its adherents. He particularly highlighted the Kingdom’s steadfast support for Quran memorization programs, which play a crucial role in nurturing the spiritual and intellectual growth of Muslims around the globe.


This event and the statements made reaffirm Saudi Arabia's role as a leading advocate for the preservation and dissemination of Islamic teachings, reflecting its ongoing efforts to support and uplift the global Muslim community through dedicated religious and educational initiatives.
