Ministry of Environment Issues First License for Aeroponics Agriculture in the Middle East

Riyadh, October 05, 2024 – In a groundbreaking move for the region, the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture has granted the first-ever operational license for a commercial agricultural project utilizing aeroponics in the Middle East. This pioneering project is set to make a significant contribution to the Kingdom’s agricultural sector by providing sustainable solutions that meet local market demands.

During an official ceremony, Eng. Ahmad Al-Ayada, the Ministry’s Undersecretary for Agriculture, formally announced the project alongside representatives from a coalition of local and international companies, including Tamimi Markets Group from Saudi Arabia, Japan’s Mitsui Group, and Italy’s Zero Group. This coalition, operating under the Green Dunes Company, aims to bring forth innovative agricultural solutions using cutting-edge technologies powered by artificial intelligence (AI). These efforts align with the broader goals of Saudi Arabia’s National Agriculture Strategy and Vision 2030, which seeks to establish a more sustainable and future-oriented agricultural sector.

The ministry revealed that the first phase of the project has been successfully completed, focusing on the development of an aeroponics farm designed to cultivate a variety of vegetables. Aeroponics, a highly efficient method of farming, uses 95% less water than conventional farming techniques and supports year-round production. The integration of AI and automation further enhances the project's efficiency, employing advanced monitoring systems and performance indicators to ensure optimal productivity throughout every stage of the agricultural process.

This project represents a significant milestone in the Kingdom's efforts to modernize its agricultural practices while minimizing environmental impact. By combining aeroponics with AI-driven technologies, the initiative is poised to set new standards for sustainable farming in the region and beyond.
