Ministry of Health and partners crack down on fake medical professionals

Riyadh, March 26, 2024, The Ministry of Health, in conjunction with various governmental bodies, has taken decisive action against several individuals posing as medical professionals and violating ethical and professional standards in healthcare. These impostors and violators were apprehended and subsequently referred to the Public Prosecution to face appropriate penalties, ensuring the protection and well-being of citizens and residents.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Health revealed the closure of a same-day surgery department within a private healthcare facility as a precautionary measure due to numerous violations. These infractions included allowing a nurse to operate beyond her designated specialization as a dermatology specialist, operating two same-day surgery rooms without the required license for such procedures, and permitting multiple doctors to conduct same-day surgery procedures without valid healthcare practice licenses. Such breaches were deemed hazardous to patient safety.

As a result, the ministry has initiated legal proceedings against these offenders, urging strict compliance with healthcare regulations and preventive measures established within the Kingdom's healthcare systems. It stressed the importance of seeking medical services exclusively from licensed facilities and professionals, asserting that patients have the right to view displayed licenses in service areas.

Furthermore, the ministry cautioned against consulting medical impostors or utilizing services from unauthorized sources, emphasizing that the established systems protect the rights of both practitioners and patients while prioritizing patient safety and upholding the integrity of the medical profession.

Under the Healthcare Professions Regulation, practicing any healthcare profession without a valid license (Article 2), examining patients outside designated areas (Article 13), and engaging in direct or indirect self-promotion (Article 10) are strictly prohibited. These regulations are in place to maintain the highest standards of healthcare delivery, safeguard patient well-being, and uphold professional ethics within the healthcare sector.
