
RIYADH, March 30, 2025 — The Communications, Space, and Technology Commission (CST) reported record data usage and improved mobile network performance in Makkah and Madinah during Ramadan 1446H.
According to CST’s latest findings, daily per capita data consumption in Makkah reached 1,155 MB—more than three times the global average—while Madinah saw even higher usage at 1,481 MB per person, exceeding four times the global average.
The report also highlighted notable improvements in mobile internet speeds. Makkah’s average download speed reached 196 Mbps, a 10% increase from last year, while Madinah saw speeds surpassing 272 Mbps, marking a 26% year-on-year boost.
Voice call activity also surged during the Umrah season, with Makkah recording over 355 million local calls and 43 million international calls, while Madinah logged more than 205 million local and 20 million international calls.
CST credited the success of its Ramadan operational plan to collaboration between government and private sector entities dedicated to serving worshippers.
The commission reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening digital infrastructure and ensuring high-quality communication services during peak seasons, aligning with the Kingdom’s digital transformation objectives.
