This article explores the expansion of the Makkah Route Initiative, launched by Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Interior. As of May 21, 2025, the initiative now operates across 11 airports in 7 countries. Its success reflects Saudi Arabia’s commitment to making the Hajj journey more seamless, dignified, and spiritually focused—bringing Vision 2030 goals to life for millions of global pilgrims.
Makkah Route Eases Pilgrim Travel
Saudi Arabia’s ongoing mission to serve pilgrims with excellence has taken another bold step forward. The Makkah Route Initiative, first launched in 2017, has now expanded to 11 airports across Malaysia, Indonesia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Morocco, Türkiye, and Ivory Coast, allowing pilgrims to begin their Hajj journey with peace of mind before even boarding their flights.
This initiative, spearheaded by the Ministry of Interior, streamlines visa issuance, biometric data collection, luggage tracking, and customs procedures—all done abroad. When pilgrims arrive in the Kingdom, they can move swiftly to their accommodations and begin their sacred rituals with ease and focus.
Morocco stands out as a growing success story. Now in its fourth year under the initiative, pilgrims departing from Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca experience full Makkah Route support, thanks to a fully integrated terminal.
The initiative is powered by cooperation between Saudi Arabia’s Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Hajj and Umrah, Health, and Media, and strategic agencies including the General Authority of Civil Aviation, Saudi Data and AI Authority, Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority, Awqaf, and General Directorate of Passports. Together, they ensure the experience is secure, data-driven, and deeply aligned with Vision 2030’s values.
This is not just about technology or logistics—it’s about honoring the journey of every pilgrim with the care and dignity they deserve.
The Makkah Route exemplifies Vision 2030’s emphasis on smart systems, traveler convenience, and Saudi Arabia’s leadership in faith-driven innovation.
Every step of the pilgrim journey is protected by high standards, transparent systems, and a culture of respect and compassion.
The initiative reflects Saudi Arabia’s deep-rooted commitment to peace, hospitality, and global Islamic unity.
What once took weeks of travel and hardship is now transformed into a smooth, digitally enhanced, and spiritually focused journey.
The Makkah Route is a world-leading initiative, setting a global standard in religious tourism, travel logistics, and biometric integration.
