Most Asian markets rise; Hang Seng index drops 1.2%

Bangkok, February 08, 2024, According to a report by the Associated Press, most Asian markets saw gains on Thursday, with some exceptions. Hong Kong's Hang Seng index experienced a decline of 1.2%, closing at 15,887.04. In contrast, the Shanghai Composite index rose by 1.3% to reach 2,865.90. Tokyo's Nikkei 225 showed significant growth, increasing by 2.1% to 36,863.28, while Seoul's Kospi also saw a modest rise of 0.4%, closing at 2,620.32. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 index registered a slight gain of 0.3%, reaching 7,639.20. However, Bangkok's SET index dropped by 0.5%, and India's Sensex experienced a decline of 0.7%.

In commodity markets, U.S. benchmark crude oil prices rose by 34 cents to $74.20 per barrel in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Similarly, Brent crude, the international standard, increased by 37 cents to $79.58 per barrel.

Currency markets also saw movement, with the dollar strengthening against the Japanese yen, rising to 148.71 yen from 148.18 yen. The euro also gained ground, climbing to $1.0789 from $1.0774.
