Museums Commission Launches Awareness Campaign on Cultural Significance of Museums

The initiative also includes the development of regional museums in 11 areas across Saudi Arabia, offering exhibitions, educational programs, and events, while promoting sustainability in museum operations and design.
The Saudi Museums Commission launched the "Telling Tomorrow’s Story" campaign to highlight the importance of museums in preserving the Kingdom's cultural heritage, promoting national identity, and fostering creative expression for future generations.

Riyadh, November 22, 2024 – The Museums Commission of Saudi Arabia today announced the launch of its highly anticipated "Telling Tomorrow’s Story" campaign, a bold initiative designed to raise awareness of the critical role museums play in preserving the Kingdom’s rich history, cultural heritage, and national identity. The campaign, under the motto "Telling Tomorrow’s Story," reflects the Museums Commission's forward-thinking vision that combines innovation with the preservation of both historical and contemporary cultural treasures. This initiative underscores the dynamic role museums will continue to play in shaping the cultural landscape for future generations while fostering creative expression in the Kingdom.

Through this campaign, the Museums Commission aims to showcase Saudi Arabia's diverse museums and cultural centers, highlighting their significance as spaces that not only protect the past but also shape the future. The campaign's digital content will feature an array of prominent museums and cultural institutions under the Commission's authority, including the National Museum, Al-Masmak Palace Museum, and the Saudi Arabia Museum of Contemporary Art at JAX (SAMoCA@JAX), as well as Diriyah Art Futures (DAF) in Riyadh. Also spotlighted are future museum projects such as the Black Gold Museum in Riyadh and the Red Sea Museum in Jeddah, both of which are poised to enrich the Kingdom’s already vibrant cultural heritage.

In its effort to preserve Saudi heritage, the Museums Commission is also committed to expanding its reach across the Kingdom by developing museums in 11 regions: Al-Qassim, Al-Jouf, Aseer, Tabuk, Hail, Najran, Arar, Dammam, Makkah, Jazan, and Al-Baha. These regional museums will collectively reflect the diverse cultural elements that make up the Kingdom’s history and identity, and will feature permanent collections alongside rotating exhibitions, educational programs, and cultural events. Under the motto “Our Saudi Story,” these museums will provide accessible spaces for learning, creativity, and community engagement, offering a deep dive into the Kingdom’s rich tapestry of history and culture.

The Museums Commission's commitment to sustainability is also an integral part of the campaign, with an emphasis on integrating environmentally friendly practices into the design and operation of museums. This sustainable approach will ensure that the preservation of Saudi cultural heritage is both responsible and forward-looking, setting a standard for the global museum community.

With "Telling Tomorrow’s Story," the Museums Commission not only reaffirms the importance of museums as guardians of the past but also positions them as catalysts for future cultural development. These spaces are envisioned as gateways to understanding Saudi Arabia's historical journey, its contemporary achievements, and its future aspirations.

The Commission invites the public to explore the diverse cultural offerings and projects through its social media platforms (X: @MOCMuseums, IG: @museums_moc, LinkedIn: Museums-Commission) and official website (www.museums.moc.gov.sa) for more information on upcoming exhibitions, collections, and cultural programs.
