Makkah, October 29, 2024 – The Muslim World League (MWL) has issued a strong condemnation of the Israeli Knesset’s recent approval of draft laws that prohibit activities by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) within the occupied Palestinian territories. According to the MWL, these legislative moves constitute a deliberate escalation against UN agencies and their humanitarian efforts, which are essential to supporting Palestinian rights under international law.
MWL Secretary-General and Chairman of the Organization of Muslim Scholars, Sheikh Dr. Mohammed Al-Issa, expressed the organization’s renewed commitment to stand in solidarity with UNRWA in its mission to aid Palestinian refugees. He emphasized that the Knesset’s actions represent a systematic violation of both international and humanitarian laws, undermining efforts to alleviate suffering in Palestinian territories and jeopardizing prospects for a comprehensive, just peace.
Dr. Al-Issa warned that such violations by Israeli authorities have far-reaching and potentially severe humanitarian implications, obstructing progress towards peace and escalating tensions in the region. The MWL, a prominent voice in the Muslim world, reaffirmed its support for UNRWA’s mission and called upon the international community to uphold Palestinian rights and international legal standards.
