Islamabad, Pakistan, January 15, 2025 – In a significant step toward promoting girls' education in Muslim communities, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Union of News Agencies (UNA) and the Muslim World League (MWL) have signed a memorandum of cooperation. The agreement was formalized during the international conference on Girl’s Education in Muslim Communities, which was hosted by the Pakistani government and organized by the MWL in Islamabad. The signing ceremony took place in the presence of Sheikh Dr. Muhammad bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, the Secretary-General of the Muslim World League and Chairman of the Muslim Scholars Association.
The memorandum was signed by Mohammed bin Abdrabuh Al-Yami, the Director-General of the UNA, who represented the news agencies, and Abdulkarim Bakhsh, an advisor to the MWL, who signed on behalf of the League. This cooperative agreement marks an important milestone in efforts to address one of the most pressing educational challenges in the Muslim world – ensuring girls have access to quality education.
The memorandum aims to establish a strategic partnership between UNA and MWL to launch joint media campaigns focused on raising awareness of girls' right to education. By leveraging the reach of news agencies and media outlets in Islamic countries, both organizations seek to foster greater public understanding of the critical importance of education for girls, particularly in underprivileged communities. The partnership also aims to engage key stakeholders in the Muslim world to take action and create environments where girls' education can thrive, both at the grassroots level and through governmental support.
This initiative aligns with the broader efforts of the OIC and MWL to promote social justice, equality, and human development across the Muslim world. With education being one of the pillars of sustainable development, this memorandum is expected to enhance collaborative efforts, support local and regional educational policies, and provide media outlets with the necessary tools to create impactful narratives surrounding girls' education.
The conference in Islamabad, which brought together key stakeholders, including educational experts, policymakers, and international organizations, has proven to be a pivotal moment in the collective effort to address the challenges girls face in accessing education. The signing of this memorandum represents a significant commitment from both the UNA and the MWL to support educational reforms and empower young girls in Muslim communities, thereby contributing to broader societal progress.
The partnership also aims to utilize media platforms to combat misconceptions and highlight the benefits of investing in girls' education, ultimately helping to secure a brighter, more equitable future for young women across the Muslim world. This agreement is expected to spark further collaborations among various entities in the educational, governmental, and media sectors, creating a unified front to promote and protect the educational rights of girls.
