MWL Disapproves of Israeli Occupation's Choice to Increase Settlements in the Golan Heights

Condemnation of Israeli Settlement Expansion: The Muslim World League condemned Israel's decision to expand settlements in the occupied Golan Heights, calling it a violation of international law and an obstacle to peace in the region.

Makkah, December 16, 2024 – The Muslim World League (MWL) has strongly condemned the Israeli occupation government’s recent decision to expand settlements in the occupied Golan Heights, a move that has sparked widespread concern in the international community. In an official statement released by the MWL General Secretariat, the organization reiterated its firm opposition to Israel's ongoing settlement activities, calling them a direct violation of international law and an affront to the rights and dignity of the Syrian people.

The MWL expressed deep concern over the negative impact of these actions on the Syrian people, highlighting that they severely undermine Syria's efforts to regain security, stability, and sovereignty after enduring years of conflict, suffering, and injustice. The statement emphasized that Israel's continued expansion of settlements in the Golan Heights further complicates the already fragile peace process in the region and exacerbates tensions that have long plagued the Middle East.

The Muslim World League urged the international community to take decisive and immediate action in response to these Israeli transgressions, stressing the importance of holding Israel accountable for its violations of international resolutions and human rights principles. The MWL called for global solidarity in denouncing these actions and for a unified effort to pressure Israel to halt its illegal settlement activities.

In its statement, the MWL also underscored the necessity of respecting Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, asserting that the international community must work together to uphold the safety and security of Syria’s citizens. The League reiterated that the Golan Heights, which Israel has occupied since 1967, remains internationally recognized as Syrian territory, and its continued occupation is a violation of Syrian rights and international law.

Furthermore, the MWL emphasized that peace in the region can only be achieved through diplomatic means that respect the rights of all nations and people, particularly the Syrian people, who have long suffered as a result of foreign occupation. The organization called for the restoration of Syria's full sovereignty over the Golan Heights and reiterated its commitment to supporting the rights of Arab nations in their struggle for justice, peace, and stability.

This condemnation adds to the growing calls for international action against Israel’s settlement policies in the Golan Heights, with many organizations and governments around the world calling for an end to such activities and a renewed commitment to a just and lasting peace in the region. The MWL’s statement reflects its ongoing commitment to advocating for the protection of human rights, sovereignty, and dignity for all people, particularly in the Arab world.
