Makkah, September 14, 2024 – The Muslim World League (MWL) has welcomed the recent statement from the Joint Ministerial Contact Group meeting held in Madrid. This statement reaffirms the group's commitment to the two-state solution as the only viable means to achieve lasting peace and security in the region.
The meeting, which included representatives from Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Palestine, Qatar, Türkiye, Ireland, Norway, Slovenia, Spain, the League of Arab States, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, condemned violence and terrorism. It supported the two-state solution based on international law and emphasized both the rights of the Palestinian people and the security of Israel.
Sheikh Dr. Mohammed Al-Issa, Secretary General of the MWL and Chairman of the Association of Muslim Scholars, praised the group's dedication to alleviating Palestinian hardships and securing their rights. He stressed the importance of empowering the Palestinian government to effectively manage the Gaza Strip, West Bank, and East Jerusalem. Al-Issa urged the international community to support the two-state solution, including recognizing the State of Palestine and granting it full UN membership.
Additionally, Al-Issa called for immediate and unrestricted humanitarian aid to Palestinians, including the opening of all crossings and support for UNRWA and other UN agencies. He also urged adherence to international humanitarian law and the International Court of Justice's directives, calling for an end to military aggression, settlement expansion, land confiscation, and displacement of Palestinians.
Al-Issa also expressed appreciation for Saudi Arabia's efforts under the leadership of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud in supporting the Palestinian cause.
