Najran, March 28, 2025, The craft of weaving palm fronds in the Najran Region remains a significant and widely practiced traditional art, reflecting local heritage and customs. Despite the availability of modern household items, it continues to hold cultural and material value, particularly during special occasions and celebrations.


Among the well-known palm frond products is the locally named 'Al-Matarah,' used as serving vessels in gatherings and reception areas to present dates, nuts, raisins, sweets, and traditional dishes such as Mardoufah, Al-Raqash, and Tannour bread.


Saleh Abdullah, a vendor at a heritage shop in Najran, noted that palm frond crafts are in high demand year-round, especially for holidays and weddings, due to their role in serving hospitality and regional cuisine. He explained that making Al-Matarah involves collecting, drying, and shaping the fronds into the desired size.
