National Center for Meteorology issues weather advisory for thunderstorms in Saudi Arabia

Riyadh, February 11, 2024, The National Center for Meteorology has issued a weather advisory indicating the likelihood of moderate to heavy thunderstorms accompanied by torrential rains across several regions in Saudi Arabia. These regions include Jazan, Asir, Al-Baha, Eastern Region, Riyadh, Qassim, and the Northern Border Region.

Additionally, temperatures are expected to decrease in parts of Tabuk, Al-Jouf, Hail, Qassim, and the Northern Border Region. Fog formation is also anticipated in parts of the Northern Border Region, Al-Jouf, Qassim, as well as the highlands of southwestern and western regions of the Kingdom.

Over the Red Sea, northerly to northwesterly winds are forecasted, with speeds ranging from 15-35 km/h in the northern and central areas, and southwesterly to northwesterly winds reaching 15-50 km/h in the southern region. Wave heights are anticipated to range from one meter to more than two meters, with rainy thunderclouds covering the southern part of the sea. Sea conditions are expected to vary from calm to choppy.

In the Arabian Gulf, southeasterly winds are predicted, with speeds reaching 20-40 km/h in the northern, northeastern, and eastern areas, and 20-50 km/h in the southern part. Wave heights are forecasted to range from one meter to more than two and a half meters. Thunderclouds are expected to cover the sea, with sea conditions ranging from relatively calm to choppy.
