Riyadh, February 11, 2024, The National Center for Wildlife is set to host the Red Sea Decade Expedition Symposium in Riyadh on February 11 and 12, aimed at convening local and international marine environment experts, government officials, and representatives from pertinent organizations.
Under the esteemed patronage of Minister of Environment, Water, and Agriculture Abdulrahman Al-Fadley, the symposium serves as a platform to unveil the significant findings of the Red Sea Decade Expedition, which commenced in February 2022. Conducted aboard NYC's OceanX and KAU-KAUST's Al-Azizi vessels, the expedition focused on meticulously mapping the Red Sea's habitats and compiling a comprehensive inventory of its biodiversity.
Over 19 weeks, the 126 researchers engaged in the expedition undertook the pioneering task of conducting the first-ever thorough survey of previously unexplored areas spanning from Afifi in the southern Red Sea to the Gulf of Aqaba in the north. The outcomes of the expedition include invaluable documentary and informational materials shedding light on these regions.
For detailed information about the symposium and its anticipated outcomes, interested parties may visit the dedicated website at https://rsde.ncw.gov.sa/?page_id=630.
