Riyadh, December 09, 2024 – The 13th annual International Anti-Corruption Day Forum, organized by the Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority (Nazaha), concluded its virtual sessions today, marking another significant milestone in global anti-corruption efforts. The forum, which was held under the theme "Impact of Protecting Whistleblowers on Enhancing Efforts of Combating Financial and Administrative Corruption," brought together international experts, government representatives, and stakeholders to discuss effective strategies for combating corruption and promoting integrity.
The event also commemorated International Anti-Corruption Day 2024, celebrated globally under the theme "Uniting with Youth Against Corruption: Shaping Tomorrow's Integrity." This theme highlighted the importance of involving young people in the fight against corruption and fostering a culture of integrity for future generations.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Bandar AbalKhail, Vice President for the Protection of Integrity at Nazaha, expressed sincere gratitude to all participants for their valuable contributions. He emphasized Saudi Arabia's unwavering commitment to combating corruption, a mission that aligns with the Kingdom's Vision 2030 objectives. Dr. AbalKhail underscored that the leadership of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and HRH Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, has set clear directives for achieving transparency, integrity, and zero tolerance for corruption in both the public and private sectors.
"This responsibility places on us at Nazaha the duty to achieve these aspirations by protecting integrity, promoting transparency, and combating corruption," Dr. AbalKhail stated. He further highlighted that the support of Saudi leadership empowers Nazaha to carry out its mandate effectively, ensuring that anti-corruption initiatives are robust and impactful.
A key focus of the forum was whistleblower protection, reflecting the Kingdom's dedication to implementing the United Nations Convention against Corruption. The Convention underscores the critical role whistleblowers play in exposing misconduct and the need to safeguard individuals who take a stand against corruption. Dr. AbalKhail noted that protecting whistleblowers is essential for fostering a culture of accountability and ensuring that those who report wrongdoing are shielded from retaliation.
The forum served as an important platform for advancing anti-corruption initiatives and reinforcing the values of integrity and accountability on a global scale. It also provided a valuable opportunity for experts and practitioners to exchange ideas and best practices on strengthening anti-corruption frameworks, enhancing transparency, and creating systems that discourage financial and administrative misconduct.
The successful conclusion of the forum is a testament to Saudi Arabia's ongoing leadership in global anti-corruption efforts and its commitment to shaping a future where integrity and transparency are prioritized. Through events such as these, Nazaha continues to play a pivotal role in driving positive change and reinforcing the Kingdom's reputation as a champion of good governance and ethical conduct.
