NCEC launches real-time air quality monitoring system with 5-minute updates

Riyadh, October 3, 2023, The National Center for Environmental Compliance (NCEC) has introduced a real-time air quality monitoring system that updates every 5 minutes. This system relies on data from 240 stations spread across the Kingdom's regions, measuring 22 air components. These air quality indicators provide valuable information to the public, enabling them to take necessary precautions in areas with poor air quality.

Engineer Ali Al-Qarni, the project supervisor at NCEC, explained that the placement of these monitoring stations considers factors like population density and the presence of industrial cities and facilities with environmental impacts.

NCEC acts swiftly when monitoring stations detect high levels of air pollution, addressing the pollution source in accordance with environmental regulations.

Al-Qarni also mentioned the creation of a website for the public, which maps the locations of air monitoring stations throughout the Kingdom. Additionally, an upcoming mobile application will provide direct updates from these stations to keep the public informed.

Furthermore, some stations are mobile and can be strategically distributed based on identified needs, with a particular focus on industrial cities. These cities will receive regular reports to help maintain air quality while they continue their developmental activities.
