Riyadh, December 23, 2023, The National Center of Meteorology (NCM) has issued a forecast for today indicating the likelihood of moderate to heavy thunderstorms accompanied by torrential rains, hail showers, and active winds stirring up dust in various regions of Saudi Arabia. The affected areas include Makkah, Madinah, Qassim, Riyadh, and the Eastern regions, as well as the eastern parts of the Northern Border region.
In addition to the anticipated weather conditions, there may be fog formation in parts of these areas. Temperature drops are expected in parts of Tabuk, Hail, Al-Jawf, and the Northern Border regions. Surface winds stirring up dust are also forecasted.
The NCM notes that winds along the Red Sea coast will be westerly to northwesterly, with speeds ranging from 20 to 40 km/h in the northern and central parts. In the southern part, winds are expected to be southerly to southwesterly, gradually turning to westerly, with speeds of 20-40 km/h. In the central part, winds may reach speeds of 50 km/h, and thundercloud formations are expected. Waves along the Red Sea might reach heights of one to two and a half meters.
For the northern part of the Arabian Gulf, the NCM forecasts southerly to southeasterly surface winds at speeds of 25-50 km/h, reaching 10-20 km/h in the southern part. Waves could reach up to two and a half meters in the northern part and up to one and a half meters in the southern part. Residents and travelers in these regions are advised to stay informed about weather updates and take necessary precautions.
