Riyadh, February 10, 2024, The National Center for Meteorology (NCM) has issued a weather advisory indicating the likelihood of moderate to heavy thunderstorms across several regions in Saudi Arabia. These storms may lead to potential flooding, accompanied by active winds and intermittent cold spells. Specifically, the affected areas include parts of Jazan, Asir, Al-Baha, and Makkah regions.
Additionally, the report highlights the possibility of thunderstorms in the Najran region, southern parts of Riyadh, and the Eastern regions, as well as sections of Madinah, Hail, and Al-Jouf regions. Moreover, fog formation is anticipated in the western and southwestern highlands of the country.
In terms of maritime conditions, southerly to northwesterly winds are expected over the Red Sea, reaching speeds of 10-35 km/h in the northern part and southeasterly to southwesterly winds at 20-50 km/h in the central and southern parts. Thunderclouds may develop over the central and southern regions of the sea, with wave heights ranging from one to more than two and a half meters. Thunderstorms are also anticipated over the central and southern parts of the Red Sea, with sea conditions forecasted to be moderately calm to choppy.
Over the Arabian Gulf, winds are forecasted to be northerly to northwesterly, shifting to southeasterly to southwesterly at speeds of 10-28 km/h. Wave heights in this region are expected to range from half a meter to one meter, with relatively calm sea conditions anticipated.
The NCM advises residents and travelers to stay updated with weather forecasts and to exercise caution during adverse weather conditions, particularly in areas prone to flooding or strong winds.
