Riyadh, March 30, 2025 – Dr. Khaled bin Abdullah Al-Abdulkader, Chief Executive of the National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification (NCVC), met with Moon Young-hak, Chairman of the Saudi-Korean Society for Economic and Trade Promotion, at NCVC’s Riyadh headquarters to discuss potential collaborations with Korean companies and review advanced greywater treatment and separation technologies for national parks.
The meeting, attended by senior NCVC officials, explored Korean expertise in small-scale and mobile wastewater treatment systems. With over 400 national parks in Saudi Arabia and an expected rise in visitors, NCVC has developed strategic plans to optimize water use. Implementing greywater separation and treatment will facilitate the reuse of treated water for afforestation projects and the creation of artificial lakes.
The Korean model utilizes advanced IT-based control systems to enhance treated water quality and efficiency. This method can double treatment capacity using existing infrastructure at just 30% of the cost of constructing new facilities, with an expedited completion timeline of eight months. Additionally, it extends the operational lifespan of treatment plants by 30 years, supporting environmental sustainability and public health.
NCVC remains dedicated to promoting sustainable environmental initiatives, including land restoration, biodiversity enhancement, rangeland and national park management, anti-logging measures, and natural resource conservation. These efforts align with Saudi Arabia’s commitment to environmental sustainability and improving the quality of life.
