Riyadh, March 26, 2025 – The National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification (NCVC) launched the Agroforestry Action Plan Development Project to promote environmental sustainability, social development, and economic growth.
The project aims to assess the current status of agroforestry, apply global best practices, and attract investment to ensure sustainable forest management. It aligns with Saudi Vision 2030 by supporting sustainable environmental practices and combating desertification.
As part of this initiative, NCVC will activate its memorandum of understanding with the Center for International Forestry Research and World Agroforestry (CIFOR-ICRAF), signed in December 2024, to enhance research collaboration and implement advanced agroforestry techniques.
This initiative is part of NCVC’s broader mission to restore land, expand vegetation cover, fight desertification, protect natural habitats, and reduce carbon emissions. It also supports the development of resilient and sustainable forest ecosystems and efforts to preserve and improve forest areas across the Kingdom.
Additionally, NCVC is progressing with its goal of planting 60 million trees, rehabilitating 300,000 hectares by 2030, as part of its initiative to establish sustainable vegetation cover in forests. The center operates under the Executive Regulations for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification, specifically Article 6 on forest regulations, which aims to create a national plan for sustainable forest management, protect and develop forests, and regulate grazing within forest areas.
