Riyadh, December 18, 2023, The National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification (NCVC) has successfully planted 200,000 trees in Huraymila National Park, located in the Huraymila governorate of the Riyadh Region. This initiative aligns with the goals of the Saudi Green Initiative, which aims to plant 10 billion trees in Saudi Arabia to combat climate change and reduce carbon emissions.
The tree-planting project in Huraymila National Park, covering an area of 14.7 square kilometers, has seen active participation from various segments of society over the past years. Individuals, including ministers, ambassadors, officials, students, and those with disabilities, have all contributed to this environmental effort.
Collaborating with the National Center for Wildlife, the park released 10 gazelles three years ago, and their population has now grown to 37 as they thrive in their natural habitat. Huraymila National Park is renowned for its lush vegetation, diverse landscapes, and picturesque views of the Tuwaiq Mountains. The park has become a popular destination, attracting over 20,000 visitors during weekends and peak seasons.
The NCVC plays a crucial role in the development, protection, and management of vegetation sites, including grazing lands, forests, and national parks. The center focuses on identifying encroachments on vegetation, combating desertification across the Kingdom, and preserving natural resources and biodiversity. This environmental conservation effort contributes to the broader vision of sustainable development in Saudi Arabia.
