NCVC Secures 500 RFID Devices to Monitor Livestock, Protect Rangelands

The center's goals include improving rangeland quality, increasing vegetation cover, and supporting sustainable development by protecting rangelands, forests, and national parks.
The NCVC has acquired 500 RFID devices to monitor and manage registered livestock, enhancing data collection and regulation efforts.

Riyadh, October 2, 2024 – The National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification (NCVC) announced today that it has acquired 500 Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) devices to enhance its ability to monitor and manage registered livestock across various regions of the Kingdom. This initiative is part of the center’s broader mission to integrate advanced technology into its operations, allowing for more efficient tracking and regulation of livestock activities in alignment with environmental conservation efforts.

According to the NCVC's press release, the newly acquired RFID devices will significantly aid in gathering detailed data about livestock, including ownership records, veterinary histories, and other critical information. Field inspectors equipped with these devices will be able to identify violators of grazing regulations, ensuring better protection of rangelands from unsanctioned grazing activities. This technology will play a key role in promoting environmental sustainability, supporting the NCVC's goal of preserving the Kingdom’s vegetation cover, and managing grazing activities within protected areas.

The NCVC’s ultimate objective is to enhance the quality of rangelands by improving the capacity for supporting livestock, increasing vegetation cover, and fostering the optimal growth of grazing plants. The data collected through the RFID system will provide insights into the numbers, breeds, species, and geographical distribution of livestock, particularly camels, which are a critical aspect of the Kingdom’s agricultural landscape.

The center emphasized its commitment to protecting and rehabilitating degraded lands, safeguarding rangelands, forests, and national parks, and promoting sustainable development. This initiative reflects NCVC's dedication to improving the quality of life through environmental stewardship and regulated grazing activities.
