NEOM, October 28, 2024 — The NEOM Board of Directors has officially unveiled Sindalah, a luxury island destination and the inaugural physical showcase of the ambitious NEOM project. Announced by His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince, Prime Minister, and Chairman of the NEOM Board of Directors, in December 2022, the opening of Sindalah represents a significant milestone in NEOM's development and Saudi Arabia’s broader tourism vision.
According to a recent press release from NEOM, the transformation of Sindalah from concept to reality has been the result of a dedicated, two-year effort. At its peak, the project mobilized a workforce of approximately 30,000 individuals across four main local contracting partners and up to 60 subcontractors. This achievement not only signifies a leap forward in realizing the Kingdom's tourism ambitions under Saudi Vision 2030 but also underscores NEOM's capacity to conceptualize and deliver innovative and luxurious destinations.
To commemorate this landmark occasion, Sindalah has welcomed its first group of invited guests, offering them an exclusive opportunity to experience the island’s unique charm and beauty. Nestled in the pristine azure waters of the Red Sea, just five kilometers off the NEOM coastline in northwest Saudi Arabia, Sindalah spans 840,000 square meters and is strategically located 17 hours by sea from key Mediterranean destinations. This positioning is designed to make Sindalah a prime gateway for yacht owners from Europe, Saudi Arabia, and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.
Sindalah is poised to welcome up to 2,400 guests per day by 2028, contributing to the creation of approximately 3,500 jobs in the hospitality and tourism sectors. This influx of employment opportunities is vital for the ongoing development of these industries, which play a crucial role in diversifying the Kingdom’s economy in alignment with Saudi Vision 2030.
NEOM Chief Executive Officer Nadhmi Al-Nasr emphasized the commitment of NEOM to spearheading the Kingdom’s new era of luxury tourism. He stated, “The realization of this landmark destination, the gateway to the Red Sea, is due to the visionary leadership of His Royal Highness Mohammed bin Salman and Saudi Vision 2030. This is a proud chapter in the NEOM story, and we are excited to achieve more of our ambitious goals with the continued support of His Royal Highness.”
Sindalah boasts an impressive marine ecosystem, with surrounding waters home to 1,100 species of fish, including 45 unique to NEOM waters, as well as over 300 coral species. In keeping with NEOM's commitment to sustainability and environmental conservation, the preservation of Sindalah’s natural marine habitat has been a central focus of its development. Guests are encouraged to explore the underwater wonders through diving experiences, promoting a deeper appreciation for the area’s ecological significance.
With its favorable climate and strategic location, Sindalah features a state-of-the-art 86-berth marina, signaling the beginning of a new era for sailing enthusiasts. The Sindalah Yacht Club will serve as the marina’s focal point, offering a range of amenities for yachting guests, owners, and crew members. Additional docking facilities, offshore buoys for superyachts, and a comprehensive suite of yacht management services enhance the destination's appeal.
The island's vibrant social and entertainment scene is anchored by the Village and Promenade, which features 38 culinary offerings curated by world-renowned chefs, alongside daytime eateries and late-night venues. Guests will also enjoy 36 luxury retail outlets, providing an upscale shopping experience.
For those seeking relaxation and leisure, the Beach Club offers poolside lounging by day and captivating musical experiences by night. Additionally, the beachfront Golf Club presents an elevated golfing experience suitable for all skill levels, featuring a world-class 6,474-yard (5,920-meter) par 70 course with 18 teeing points and two distinctive nine-hole experiences.
Guests will have a variety of accommodation options, including 440 rooms, 88 villas, and 218 luxury serviced apartments.
