March 27, 2025 - Alfa Romeo Unveils Camouflaged Test Mule for Next-Gen Stelvio SUV
Alfa Romeo has released images of a camouflaged test mule for the next-generation Stelvio SUV, marking a significant update for the model since its debut nearly nine years ago.
The test mule, featuring red and black camouflage along with the brand’s iconic crest and Biscione dragon, was recently spotted undergoing cold-weather testing in Sweden.
Transition to STLA Large Platform
The new Stelvio will shift from the previous Giorgio architecture to Stellantis' STLA Large platform, which also supports models like the Dodge Charger. This platform is versatile, accommodating both combustion engines and electric drivetrains, in line with Alfa Romeo’s strategy to offer multiple powertrain options.
Design and Features
While camouflaged, some details of the new Stelvio were visible. The SUV appears larger than the current model, with the STLA Large platform supporting lengths between 187.6 and 201.8 inches, compared to the existing Stelvio's 184.5 inches.
The test mule featured a new upper LED strip and a split headlamp design, hinting at a fresh lighting signature. Other noticeable elements include flush door handles and a more sloped rear profile.
Powertrain and Performance
Notably, the test car lacked visible exhaust outlets and displayed a high-voltage sticker, suggesting that Alfa Romeo is exploring an electric version of the Stelvio. This aligns with the brand’s push towards electrification and its desire for a fresh start.
Expected Launch and Upcoming Models
The new Stelvio is expected to be officially unveiled later this year, with sales beginning in 2026. Following this, the next Giulia is set to debut with a crossover fastback design, as promised by Alfa Romeo.
