Riyadh, December 17, 2024 – The Heritage Commission of Saudi Arabia has successfully
registered 13,040 new urban heritage sites into the National Urban Heritage Register, bringing the total number of documented heritage sites across the Kingdom to 17,495. This landmark achievement underscores the commission’s ongoing efforts to preserve and protect the country’s rich cultural and historical heritage, ensuring these sites remain a vital part of Saudi Arabia’s identity for future generations.
The newly added heritage sites are distributed across various regions, reflecting the Kingdom’s vast and diverse cultural landscape. Riyadh leads with 1,950 new entries, followed by Madinah with 3,273, Al-Baha with 1,531, and Hail with 1,525. Other regions also contributed significantly, including Qassim (1,400), Aseer (972), and the Eastern Region (762). Makkah, Al-Jouf, Jazan, Najran, Tabuk, and the Northern Borders each added valuable sites to the registry, further enhancing the national heritage inventory.
The Heritage Commission remains steadfast in its commitment to preserving the cultural and historical significance of these urban heritage sites. Guided by the Antiquities, Museums, and Urban Heritage Law, the commission employs state-of-the-art technologies and international best practices to document, protect, and preserve these sites.
