Arar, May 14, 2024,The Northern Borders Region of Saudi Arabia teems with a wealth of various aromatic, medicinal and seasonal plants and trees that play a crucial role in combating desertification, increasing vegetation cover and biodiversity, stabilizing the soil and attracting ecotourism enthusiasts.

Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Aman Environmental Association in the Northern Borders Region Nasser Al-Mujlad said that the region boasts many plants with health, environmental and nutritional benefits.

He highlighted the region's potential, stating that its diverse terrain and rich plant life offer numerous opportunities for industries related to agricultural products. This, in turn, can contribute to the development of ecotourism and the creation of jobs for the region's residents

According to Al-Mujlad, the Artemisia plant, which grows up to 1.5 meters, is one of the most important aromatic plants in the region. In addition to its various medicinal uses, fresh Artemisia leaves can be added to tea to elevate the taste and presentation. Achillea, another of the region's famous plants with lemon-yellow flat-topped flowers that cover the plant in spring, is typically found in the region's valleys, and is used to add a pleasant scent to homes.

Al-Mujlad emphasized the positive changes brought about by the Saudi Green Initiative and the establishment of natural reserves, which have led to the return of many trees and plants, and contributed to the expansion of vegetation cover in the region.
