The National Water Company (NWC) presented its achievements at COP16, highlighting 94 projects completed in 2024, valued at over SAR 3.7 billion, focusing on water services and sanitary sewage across Saudi Arabia.

Riyadh, December 10, 2024 — The National Water Company (NWC) has showcased its impressive achievements at the 16th Conference of the Parties (COP16) to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), underscoring its commitment to enhancing water and wastewater services across Saudi Arabia. At the conference, NWC highlighted the significant strides it has made in improving its water pumping and treatment operations, reflecting the company’s ongoing efforts to contribute to the country’s sustainable development goals and combat the challenges posed by desertification.

Throughout 2024, NWC completed 94 key infrastructure projects in various regions of the Kingdom, with a total value exceeding SAR 3.7 billion. These projects are a part of the company's broader strategy to modernize and expand water and sewage systems. Specifically, 66 of the projects, valued at SAR 2 billion, focused on enhancing water services, while the remaining 28 projects, worth SAR 1.7 billion, were dedicated to sanitary sewage improvements. These initiatives have played a crucial role in meeting the growing demand for clean water and efficient wastewater treatment across the Kingdom.

Among the company’s most notable achievements, NWC has expanded the capacities of its water and wastewater infrastructure. This includes the addition of 40 new reservoirs, increasing storage capacity by over 132,000 cubic meters, and the establishment of water-pumping stations with a combined capacity of more than 680,000 cubic meters per day. Furthermore, the company’s wastewater treatment plants have been upgraded to process an additional 77,000 cubic meters per day, while new lift stations have been built, further enhancing the Kingdom’s ability to manage wastewater. In addition to these expansions, NWC laid over 2,400 kilometers of pipeline, including 1,837 kilometers of water lines and 597 kilometers of sewage lines, contributing to the further development of the country's water and sewage networks.

On the operational side, NWC has also made significant improvements in its service delivery. The company reported an increase in the hours of water supply to network-served districts, achieving an average of 20.5 hours of daily water pumping in various areas. This operational success is part of NWC's broader strategy to enhance the quality and availability of water services throughout the Kingdom. The company also emphasized its dedication to customer satisfaction, continuously monitoring performance indicators to ensure that its operations align with both national objectives and the expectations of residents. Through these efforts, NWC continues to play a pivotal role in supporting Saudi Arabia’s vision for sustainable water management and development.

These achievements are a testament to NWC’s unwavering commitment to meeting the Kingdom’s water and sewage infrastructure needs, while also contributing to environmental sustainability, in line with Saudi Vision 2030.
