Jeddah, March 07, 2024, In a press release issued today, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) strongly condemned the Israeli occupation's approval of the construction of approximately 3,500 new settlement units. This action is deemed a continuation of the Israeli colonial settlement policy in the occupied Palestinian territory, according to the release.
The OIC reiterated its stance that Israeli settlements are considered invalid, illegitimate, and illegal under international law, the Geneva Conventions, and relevant United Nations resolutions, particularly UN Security Council Resolution No. 2334. The organization emphasized the detrimental impact of such settlements on the prospects for peace in the region.
Calling upon the international community, the OIC urged all nations to fulfill their responsibilities in putting an immediate end to the numerous crimes and violations committed by the Israeli occupation forces across the occupied Palestinian territory, including the city of Jerusalem. The OIC emphasized the urgent need for collective action to address the ongoing challenges and uphold the rights and dignity of the Palestinian people.
