Jeddah, August 1, 2023, The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Hissein Brahim Taha, has once again emphasized the importance of urging the Swedish and Danish authorities to undertake official measures aimed at averting any future instances of desecration and incineration of the sacred Quran. The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) delivered his remarks during his address at the commencement of the 18th extraordinary session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the OIC. This session, conducted in a virtual format, took place on Monday. The individual conveyed his deep regret regarding the limited progress made thus far, emphasizing the importance of the matter for the Islamic community and the potential ramifications it may have on relations with member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. The Secretary-General has duly transmitted the concerns of the esteemed member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to the governments of Sweden and Denmark. Additionally, these concerns have been conveyed to the Secretary-General of the United Nations and the President of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). The focal point of these concerns pertains to the persistent issuance of licenses by the Swedish and Danish authorities, which have now reached a level that is deemed disconcerting. In addition, he proposed that member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) adopt independent actions that reflect their disapproval of the stance adopted by the authorities in both nations with regards to the recurring instances of offensive remarks and the prevention of any potential reoccurrence of such incidents. The Secretary-General further emphasized the significance of this development, which has transpired during a pivotal juncture marked by earnest endeavors to advance the principles of tolerance, moderation, mutual respect, and comprehension. The Secretary-General gracefully concluded his speech by extending his utmost appreciation to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which currently holds the esteemed position of Chair of the Islamic Summit and the Executive Committee.
