Jeddah, Aug 07, 2023 Yesterday, a delegation comprising members from the OIC General Secretariat and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries embarked on a significant visit to the Rohingya refugee camps in Bangladesh. This visit was conducted in accordance with the action plan that had been previously agreed upon by both parties. Leading the delegation was Ambassador Tariq Ali Bakhit, the esteemed OIC Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs.
The purpose of the visit is to provide a comprehensive update on the actions undertaken by the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers regarding the pressing matter of the Rohingya crisis. Additionally, the visit seeks to galvanize increased financial assistance to alleviate the immense burden faced by Bangladesh as it graciously accommodates the influx of Rohingya refugees within its borders.
Upon their arrival in the bustling metropolis of Dhaka, the esteemed delegation wasted no time in engaging in a crucial rendezvous with the distinguished United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). Additionally, they participated in an extensive gathering that encompassed all the esteemed United Nations agencies diligently operating within the borders of Bangladesh.
