Jeddah, April 16, 2024, The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) actively participated in the 37th session of the Islamic Committee of the International Crescent, conducted virtually in the Jordanian capital, Amman, today.
Ambassador Tarig Ali Bakheet, the OIC Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian, Cultural, and Social Affairs, presided over the session. In his address, he highlighted the critical context of the meeting, occurring amidst ongoing Israeli atrocities against the Palestinian people in Gaza. He condemned Israel's genocidal actions, emphasizing the urgent need for humanitarian intervention and aid delivery in Gaza, despite obstructive measures by occupation forces.
Ambassador Bakheet urged collective efforts and initiatives among Red Crescent societies across the Islamic world to address the repercussions of the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. He underscored the session's significance, given the prevalent humanitarian challenges across the Islamic world, including natural disasters and crises stemming from conflicts and wars. He stressed the necessity of intensifying effective measures to mitigate these challenges, developing robust humanitarian strategies, and forging partnerships within the humanitarian community.
Furthermore, Ambassador Bakheet expressed gratitude to the Jordanian government for hosting and facilitating the session, recognizing the pivotal role of such gatherings in advancing humanitarian goals and solidarity within the Islamic world.
