Jeddah, November 29, 2024 — The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) marked the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, observed globally every year on November 25. This significant day serves as a solemn reminder of the persistent and widespread violence that women and girls continue to endure across the globe, with a particular focus on those living in conflict zones where their suffering is often exacerbated.
The theme for this year's observance, “Invest to Prevent Violence against Women & Girls! #NoExcuse,” calls for urgent action and financial commitment to eradicate violence and provide better protection for women and girls worldwide. The theme emphasizes the need for proactive, long-term investments in strategies and programs that prevent violence, support survivors, and ensure gender equality.
In his remarks, OIC Secretary General Hissein Brahim Taha reaffirmed the organization's firm dedication to combating violence against women. He underscored the OIC's continued efforts to promote women's empowerment within its 57 member states. Taha also condemned the ongoing global violence faced by women and called for a unified international approach to put an end to these human rights violations.
