Jeddah, March 25, 2024, Ramadan 15 saw the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) commemorating the International Day of Orphans in the Islamic World, spotlighting the plight of orphaned children within its member states.
The decision to observe this day annually was formalized during the 40th meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of OIC member states, convened in Conakry, Republic of Guinea, from December 9 to 11, 2013.
With a steadfast commitment to addressing the needs of orphaned children, particularly in member states grappling with conflicts and disasters, the OIC underscored the imperative of providing comprehensive care and support for these vulnerable individuals.
Central to its mission is advocating for the rights of orphans and rallying support through Muslim solidarity. By fostering a culture of inclusivity, the OIC aims to create societies that extend unwavering support to orphaned children, ensuring their well-being and integration into society.
Against the backdrop of escalating tensions, the OIC highlighted the escalating crisis faced by Palestinian refugees, particularly orphaned children, amidst the continued oppression perpetrated by Israeli occupation forces. The ongoing violence has inflicted untold suffering, resulting in the loss and injury of countless defenseless Palestinians.
In light of these challenges, the OIC reiterated its call for member states to organize initiatives aimed at ameliorating the condition of orphans and safeguarding their rights, reaffirming its unwavering commitment to championing their cause.
