Jeddah, December 07, 2023, The Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Hissein Brahim Taha, has expressed his endorsement of the plea made by the Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), Antonio Guterres. Guterres urged the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to issue a declaration for a humanitarian ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. This call is aimed at preventing a looming humanitarian catastrophe, aligning with the provisions outlined in Article 99 of the UN Charter.
Taha deems this initiative a crucial and indispensable measure to activate the role and responsibility of UN institutions, particularly the UNSC. The objective is to halt the persistent Israeli aggression against the Palestinian population in Gaza, emphasizing the urgency of addressing the humanitarian crisis unfolding in the region.
