Jeddah, February 05, 2024, The Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Hissein Brahim Taha, addressed a Photo Exhibition held within the premises of the OIC in Jeddah, shedding light on severe human rights violations in the Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
Speaking at the event organized by the Permanent Mission of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to the OIC on "Kashmir Solidarity Day," Taha expressed the OIC's satisfaction in hosting such a significant occasion. He reiterated the organization's unwavering stance on advocating for a just and peaceful resolution to the Kashmir issue, aligning with the pertinent resolutions of the United Nations Security Council.
Emphasizing the OIC's consistent call, Taha underscored the need for the complete implementation of relevant UN resolutions, particularly those recognizing the right to self-determination for the people of Kashmir. Reflecting on the 49th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers held in Nouakchott, Islamic Republic of Mauritania, in March of the previous year, Taha recalled the Council's urging of India to reverse all illegal measures post-August 5, 2019, halt widespread human rights abuses in the Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir, and permit unrestricted access to UN Special Procedures, international media, and independent observers in the region.
Drawing attention to the visit by the OIC's Special Representative for Jammu and Kashmir, Ambassador Yousef AlDobeay, to Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Taha highlighted the organization's proactive engagement in addressing the situation. Concluding his remarks, the Secretary-General reiterated the OIC's steadfast commitment to collaborating with relevant stakeholders, aiming for a peaceful and just solution that upholds the rights and aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
