Jeddah, January 27, 2024, In response to the recent preliminary ruling by the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has expressed its satisfaction and support. The Hague-based judicial body has ordered Israel, recognized as the occupying power, to take measures to prevent further genocidal acts and statements against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.
Headquartered in Jeddah, the OIC has issued a call to all relevant parties to ensure Israel's prompt and complete compliance with the ICJ ruling. Furthermore, the OIC urges the international community to fulfill its responsibilities by providing protection for the Palestinian people and putting an end to the ongoing acts of genocide against them.
Emphasizing the necessity for sustained political and legal efforts, the OIC stresses the importance of imposing a comprehensive halt to Israel's blatant military aggression. This includes putting an end to acts such as genocide, murder, displacement, and destruction across the occupied Palestinian territories. The organization is advocating for the immediate, sufficient, and sustainable delivery of relief aid into Gaza to address the humanitarian crisis.
In a show of appreciation, the OIC extends thanks and gratitude to the Republic of South Africa for taking the initiative to file the lawsuit against Israel at the ICJ. The OIC's stance underscores its commitment to seeking justice and safeguarding the rights of the Palestinian people amid the complex geopolitical landscape in the Middle East.
