OIC Urges Collective Action for Social Justice on International Day of Disabled Persons

In commemoration of the International Day of Disabled Persons, OIC Secretary-General Hissein Brahim Taha has issued a call to member states, relevant OIC institutions, and international organizations. The aim is to amplify efforts towards achieving social justice, as highlighted in a press release by OIC.

The annual event, observed since 1992 on December 3, serves to raise awareness about the challenges faced by disabled individuals and underscores the imperative to intensify initiatives promoting their integration into society.

Taha emphasized the pressing humanitarian situation endured by the Palestinian people, particularly focusing on the challenges faced by disabled individuals. He highlighted the importance of implementing resolutions, policies, and programs to support the disabled population while conducting awareness activities to facilitate their seamless integration into communities.

The press release further notes that resolutions supporting disabled individuals were adopted during the OIC ministerial conference on social development held in Egypt in June 2023. These resolutions encourage member states to share experiences and best practices related to the integration and rehabilitation of disabled individuals within their respective nations.
