Jeddah, March 1, 2025 – On the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan 1446 AH, the Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Hissein Brahim Taha, extended heartfelt congratulations to the leaders and peoples of the Muslim nations. In a statement issued today, Taha conveyed his best wishes to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, the leaders of the OIC member states, and all Muslims worldwide, as they prepare to observe this sacred month of fasting, reflection, and spiritual renewal.
Taha’s message was one of goodwill and solidarity, offering prayers for Allah's blessings and peace upon the Muslim nations during Ramadan. He expressed his sincere hopes that this blessed month would bring about a cessation of conflicts and crises across the Islamic world, fostering an environment of peace, unity, and reconciliation. His words reflected the OIC’s commitment to enhancing the welfare of the Muslim ummah and alleviating the suffering of those affected by prolonged crises.
In his statement, Taha expressed deep sorrow and concern over the ongoing situation in the Gaza Strip, where the region has endured over a year of brutal Israeli aggression, leading to immense suffering and loss of life. He also condemned the continuous violence and human rights violations in the occupied West Bank, Jerusalem, and particularly at the Al-Aqsa Mosque, a sacred site for Muslims around the world. Taha emphasized that the situation in these areas remains dire, with the suffering of innocent civilians exacerbating during the month of Ramadan.
Beyond the political and humanitarian concerns, Taha used the occasion to remind the Muslim world that Ramadan is not only a time for spiritual reflection and devotion but also an opportunity to embody the values of goodness, compassion, and solidarity. He called on the Muslim nations to extend a helping hand to those in need, especially those suffering in refugee camps and among displaced populations. This spirit of charity and communal support, Taha urged, should be a central aspect of the observance of Ramadan, as Muslims unite in empathy and selflessness during this sacred month.
The OIC Secretary-General further highlighted the importance of Ramadan as a time for Muslims to come together in collective prayer, empathy, and social responsibility. He stressed that the essence of this holy month lies in fostering unity within the Muslim world and extending care to those suffering, whether due to conflict, displacement, or poverty. Through acts of charity, prayer, and solidarity, Ramadan serves as a powerful reminder of the shared values that bind the global Muslim community.
Taha’s message concluded with a call for Muslims everywhere to remain steadfast in their commitment to the values of peace, justice, and compassion, particularly during these challenging times. As the Muslim world embarks on this sacred month, Taha expressed his hopes for a brighter, more peaceful future for all, with the collective efforts of the ummah paving the way for healing and reconciliation.
