MAKKAH, March 29, 2025 — More than 2.5 million worshippers gathered at the Grand Mosque on Friday for Isha and Taraweeh prayers on the 29th night of Ramadan, marking the Qur’an completion ceremony (Khatm Al-Qur’an) in a deeply spiritual and peaceful atmosphere.
From early morning, the Grand Mosque saw a steady flow of Umrah pilgrims and worshippers filling its courtyards, prayer halls, and the Mataf area.
The Kingdom’s meticulous planning and extensive services ensured that worshippers could perform their rituals with ease, comfort, and safety under the guidance of the wise leadership.
The General Authority for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque operated at full capacity in collaboration with relevant authorities to manage the large crowds.
Worshippers were efficiently directed to the Mataf, designated prayer areas, and routes allocated for the elderly and individuals with disabilities.
Guidance signage was strategically placed to facilitate access to various facilities and services.
Enhanced cleaning, sanitization, and perfuming efforts were implemented, with specialized equipment in place. Restrooms remained fully operational, and over 33,000 prayer rugs were provided alongside a continuous supply of both chilled and unchilled Zamzam water.
Operational support included functional elevators, escalators, and more than 1,300 sound system speakers. Electric and manual carts were linked via the “Tanaqul” app to improve mobility for those in need.
A trained team managed crowd movement, ensuring a smooth flow throughout the mosque. More than 3,500 male and female workers conducted five daily cleanings of the entire Grand Mosque, supervised to maintain efficiency at full capacity.
Emergency response systems were on high alert, with continuous checks on fire alarms, ventilation, and pedestrian safety routes.
A weather-monitoring system was in place to respond promptly to rainfall or other climatic changes.
Integrated crowd management plans featured clear pathways, trained pedestrian guides offering multilingual assistance, and volunteers helping worshippers navigate the vast mosque complex.
