Islamabad, January 27, 2024, Pakistan has expressed its approval of the recent interim ruling by the International Court of Justice (ICJ), where the Hague-based judicial body mandated Israel, recognized as the occupying power, to cease any genocidal practices and refrain from making statements that incite genocide against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.
In a statement released by the Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the country emphasized the importance of the full and effective implementation of the ICJ decision. Pakistan calls for the protection of the human rights of the Palestinian people in alignment with the principles outlined in the United Nations Charter, relevant UN resolutions, and international law.
Furthermore, the statement reiterates Pakistan's unwavering support for the just and legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people to exercise their inalienable right to self-determination. The country also reaffirms its backing for the legal proceedings initiated by South Africa before the ICJ against Israel under the 1948 Genocide Convention. Pakistan's stance reflects its commitment to upholding international justice and supporting the Palestinian cause within the framework of established legal norms and principles.
