Abida Ahmad
The Shura Council's efforts in parliamentary diplomacy have reinforced Saudi Arabia’s global diplomatic presence, fostering cooperation and legislative collaboration with friendly and brotherly nations.
On September 18, 2024, Saudi Arabia, under the leadership of King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, emphasized the importance of parliamentary diplomacy as a key element of its international relations strategy, engaging with various global parliamentary organizations and unions.

Riyadh, September 18, 2024, Under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia places significant importance on parliamentary diplomacy as one of the major components of the Kingdom's official diplomacy.

Parliamentary diplomacy extends to interacting with various international issues and topics through regional, continental, and international parliamentary organizations and unions, including conferences, forums, and delegation exchanges with different parliaments around the world.

The Shura Council has worked to activate mechanisms for parliamentary diplomacy to play a vital role at regional and international levels. This has been achieved through visits by the council's presidency and officials to brotherly and friendly countries, productive participation in regional and international conferences, and through parliamentary friendship committees that the council has established with various parliaments worldwide.

Upon the conclusion of the 8th session of the Shura Council, which lasted four years, the legislature has strengthened its relations with several parliaments in brotherly and friendly countries. Council delegations have made several visits to similar parliamentary councils in these countries, meeting with senior officials, and holding joint meetings. This provided an opportunity to introduce the role of the Shura Council in organizational and legislative matters, as well as its significant emphasis on parliamentary diplomacy and its distinguished and effective role in enhancing parliamentary relations between the Shura Council and its counterparts in different countries.

During its eighth session, the Shura Council conducted at least 79 parliamentary and diplomatic visits at the level of senior officials, with its parliamentary friendship committees implementing 176 activities with its counterparts in brotherly and friendly countries.

Regarding meetings with parliamentary organizations, unions, and forums, the Shura Council has attended 111 international events and forums.
