Participation in the 17th Paralympic Summer Games is announced by the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee


Historic Delegation: The Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee (SOPC) is sending its largest delegation ever to the 17th Paralympic Summer Games in Paris, with nine athletes competing in athletics, weightlifting, taekwondo, table tennis, and dressage.


Royal Support: SOPC Chairman Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki bin Faisal thanked King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for their continued support, which has enabled Saudi Arabia's participation in five Paralympic sports for the first time.


Athlete Lineup: The Saudi team includes Abdulrahman Al-Qurashi (wheelchair athletics), Hassan Dawshi (long jump), Noor Al-Sanaa (sprint), Sarah Al-Jumaah (shot put), Ali Al-Nakhli (sprint), Adnan Saeed (weightlifting), Eyad Al Turayk (taekwondo), Ghalia Al-Anzi (table tennis), and Ahmed Al-Sharbatly (dressage).

Riyadh, August 19, 2024 — The Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee (SOPC) has officially announced its participation in the 17th Paralympic Summer Games, set to take place in Paris from August 28 to September 8, 2024. This upcoming Games will see the Kingdom’s largest delegation in terms of the number of sports represented in its history of Paralympic participation. The Saudi team will comprise nine athletes competing across five different sports, including athletics, weightlifting, taekwondo, table tennis, and dressage.


Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki bin Faisal, Chairman of the SOPC, expressed profound gratitude to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and HRH Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for their continuous support and dedication to the sports sector in Saudi Arabia. This support has been instrumental in enabling the Kingdom's participation in major international sporting events and has allowed Saudi Arabia to make its debut in five Paralympic sports this year.



The delegation will feature athletes representing the Kingdom in various disciplines. In Paralympic athletics, Abdulrahman Al-Qurashi will compete in the 100m and 400m wheelchair events, Hassan Dawshi will participate in the long jump, Noor Al-Sanaa will run the 100m sprint, Sarah Al-Jumaah will compete in the shot put, and Ali Al-Nakhli will race in the 100m and 200m sprints. In weightlifting, Adnan Saeed will represent Saudi Arabia, while Eyad Al Turayk will compete in taekwondo. Ghalia Al-Anzi will be the Kingdom’s competitor in table tennis, and Ahmed Al-Sharbatly will participate in dressage.


This participation underscores Saudi Arabia’s commitment to enhancing its presence in international sports, particularly in the Paralympic arena. The SOPC’s involvement in the Games highlights the Kingdom’s ongoing efforts to support and develop its athletes and to showcase their talents on a global stage. The forthcoming Paralympic Summer Games in Paris are anticipated to be a significant milestone for Saudi Arabia, marking a new chapter in its sports history.
