The Historical District, and more specifically the central area of Al-Balad, has been a popular destination of pilgrims for hundreds of years. This district is home to a busy market that sells a wide variety of souvenirs and heritage treasures, which tourists eagerly buy for their families and loved ones. Carpets, prayer beads, and precious stones adorned with images of the Kaaba, the Great Mosque, or the Prophet's Mosque are among the most popular items that pilgrims buy throughout their journey. In addition, there is significant demand for a variety of dates, bedding, and traditional works of art, such as the representations of the two sacred mosques, the illustrations of Koranic calligraphy, and the representation of religious sites.
These artifacts evoke wonderful memories in the pilgrims, and they hope to be able to re-create them in the future. The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) spoke to a large number of pilgrims who expressed their happiness for the opportunity to go to Saudi Arabia to perform Hajj and explore the abundant attractions that the Kingdom has to offer before returning to their respective countries of origin. They expressed a desire to participate in the spiritual journey available during Hajj because it had such a profound effect on them.
