LUCKNOW, April 2, 2025 - India: Wicketkeeper-batsman Prabhsimran Singh's explosive 69 off 34 balls guided Punjab Kings to an eight-wicket win over Lucknow Super Giants on Tuesday, securing their second IPL victory.
Punjab comfortably chased down Lucknow’s target of 172 with nearly four overs to spare, with captain Shreyas Iyer remaining unbeaten on 52 off 30 balls.
Lucknow's first home game of the season began poorly, losing in-form opener Mitchell Marsh for a golden duck in the first over to Arshdeep Singh. Marsh's partner, Aiden Markram, hit Arshdeep for three boundaries in the next over but fell for 28 off 18 balls to New Zealand pacer Lockie Ferguson, making his debut for the Kings.
Captain Rishabh Pant’s stay at the crease was brief, departing for just two runs off five balls, leaving Lucknow struggling at 35-3 by the end of the powerplay.
Nicholas Pooran and Ayush Badoni stabilized the innings with a 54-run partnership for the fourth wicket, but Pooran fell to spinner Yuzvendra Chahal for 44 off 30 balls.
David Miller’s quickfire 19 off 18 balls was cut short by fellow South African Marco Jansen. Badoni (41) and Abdul Samad (27), both dismissed by Arshdeep in the final over, added some late momentum, helping Lucknow reach 171-7.
In reply, Punjab lost opener Priyansh Arya cheaply for eight runs off nine balls to spinner Digvesh Rathi. However, Prabhsimran and Iyer's rapid 84-run partnership, led by Prabhsimran, took the match away from Lucknow. Nehal Wadhera (43) then joined Iyer to guide Punjab to victory without further loss.
Rathi (2-30) was the only Lucknow bowler to claim wickets.
