Prince Abdulaziz secures WADA Founding Council seat with Asian majority

Riyadh, November 01, 2023, Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki bin Faisal bin Abdulaziz, Minister of Sport and President of the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee (SOPC), has secured a seat on the Founding Council of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) with a majority of votes from the Asian continent. This prestigious position will be held from 2024 to 2026, as announced by WADA.


The Founding Council of WADA holds the highest legislative authority within the organization, composed of 21 members representing government bodies from member countries, with around 12 of them serving as sport ministers. Furthermore, it consists of 21 members representing Olympic movements in member countries, including federation heads and members of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).


This accomplishment underscores the remarkable standing of the Saudi sports sector on the global stage, with several distinguished leaders in various international sports roles. It attests to the sector's significant progress and its attainment of prominent global recognition.
