Riyadh, October 20, 2023, Prince Fahd bin Jalawi bin Abdulaziz, Vice President of the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee, launched the Riyadh 2023 World Combat Games (WCG) in place of Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Faisal, the Minister of Sports and President of SOPC. The ceremony took place at the Ministry of Sports Hall within the Prince Faisal bin Fahd Olympic Complex.
The launch event featured the presence of prominent figures, including Ivo Ferriani, the President of SportAccord, and Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad, the President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee. It marked a historic occasion as Riyadh 2023 World Combat Games boasts the highest number of participants ever recorded in the tournament's history, with over 1,500 male and female athletes competing across 16 combat sports.
