Prince Faisal bin Farhan leads meeting on Gaza offensive

Riyadh, Febuary 9, 2024, On Thursday, February 8, 2024, Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah convened a consultative meeting to address the escalating Israeli offensive on the Gaza Strip. Notable attendees included Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Ayman Safadi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Sameh Shoukry, and Secretary of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Executive Committee and Minister of Civil Affairs, Hussein AlSheikh.

During the meeting, the ministers underlined the urgent need to halt the hostilities in the Gaza Strip, stressing the imperative of an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire. They underscored the necessity to safeguard civilians in accordance with international humanitarian law and called for the removal of all barriers hindering the delivery of humanitarian aid to the enclave. Additionally, the ministers voiced their unwavering support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), urging all stakeholders to actively participate in humanitarian efforts for Palestinian refugees.

Furthermore, the ministers emphasized the criticality of advancing irreversible measures towards the realization of a two-state solution, with recognition of the state of Palestine based on the borders of June 4, 1967, and East Jerusalem as its capital, in alignment with pertinent international resolutions. They reiterated that the Gaza Strip constitutes an integral part of the occupied Palestinian territory, vehemently rejecting all forms of forced displacement operations.
