Prince Faisal leads Saudi delegation, emphasizes cooperation for development and stability

Havana, September 16, 2023, Taking over as the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, Minister of Foreign Affairs under King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, led the delegation from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the Group 77+China Summit in Havana, Cuba. The foreign minister of the kingdom spoke, reiterating Saudi Arabia's dedication to pursuing development, prosperity, and stability through a cooperative, complementary strategy. According to Prince Faisal bin Farhan, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) has given more than $6 billion in humanitarian aid to 91 countries since its founding in 2015. He also noted that the Saudi Fund for Development has given more than $18 billion to finance more than 700 development projects in 85 countries, with a focus on areas like social infrastructure, transportation, and agriculture. He added that the kingdom is operating within a circular carbon economy that aids in the reduction of carbon emissions, stressing the importance of investing in clean energy technology to support the equitable and thorough transition to clean energy.

In order to promote clean energy technologies and realize zero-emission ambitions, he emphasized the importance of strengthening international cooperation, which is a crucial enabler for achieving global climate goals. He also noted that the kingdom views sustainability as a driving force for growth and progress and works to integrate economic, social, and environmental factors into development initiatives.

The monarchy joins the nations of the globe in the difficulties it faces in achieving the objectives of sustainable development, including environmental difficulties, the foreign minister said. The kingdom has announced the establishment of a global water organization to develop and integrate the efforts of nations and organizations to ensure the sustainability of water resources, improve access for all, and address water issues. These initiatives include the Middle East Green Initiative and the Saudi Green Initiative, which contribute to achieving global goals to combat climate change.

Additionally, the minister said, "Saudi Arabia looks forward to hosting the member states of the UNCCD conference in Riyadh next year."

Abdulaziz Al-Wasil, the kingdom's permanent representative to the United Nations in New York; Faisal Al-Harbi, the kingdom's ambassador to Cuba; and Abdulrahman Al-Daoud, the director general of the foreign minister's office, all attended the conference.
