Princess Reema attends agreement signing for gender equality in sport

Washington, September 20, 2023, Princess Reema bint Bandar bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz, Saudi Ambassador to the United States of America and member of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Olympic Committee, attended the signing of an agreement between the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and UN Women to promote gender equality in sport. Under the terms of the agreement, the IOC reaffirmed its commitment to using sport to promote gender equality and empower women and girls. The agreement, which was signed in New York by IOC President Thomas Bach and UN Women Executive Director Sima Bahous, extends a partnership that began in 2012 and was first extended in 2017.

The two organizations will continue to collaborate to maximize the role of sport in shaping social norms and to accomplish sustainable development goals that have a direct impact on the daily lives of women and girls.

Bach stated that sport has the ability to transform people's lives and that "expanding our partnership with UN Women will help us ensure that all women and girls have access to this unique power of sport."

According to the new agreement, "we will strengthen our ongoing initiatives to encourage girls to participate in sports and achieve gender equality."
