Riyadh, November 22, 2024 – On the occasion of World Children's Day, observed annually on November 20, Khalid bin Abdurrahman Al-Fakhri, President of the National Society for Human Rights (NSHR), emphasized the critical importance of promoting and safeguarding children's rights. Al-Fakhri stated that ensuring children's rights is foundational not only to their physical and mental well-being but also to the creation of a safe and stable environment in society. He highlighted that children who are protected from neglect and abuse experience fewer psychological stresses and are better able to thrive, both mentally and physically. Furthermore, he pointed out that fostering a culture of respect for children's rights contributes to reducing violence and crime in communities by addressing the root causes of neglect.
Al-Fakhri underscored the significance of raising awareness about children's rights, as this helps individuals recognize violations and take swift actions to protect vulnerable children. He also stressed the necessity of educating society on harmful practices that can affect children's welfare and well-being, urging everyone who interacts with children to be vigilant and responsible. One of the growing concerns, he noted, is the impact of cyber risks on children’s mental health, emphasizing the pivotal role that families play in protecting children from these dangers in an increasingly digital world.
Furthermore, Al-Fakhri highlighted that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 reflects the government's strong commitment to human rights, particularly children's rights. This is evidenced by ongoing efforts to create a robust legal framework and social initiatives designed to promote and protect these rights, reinforcing the Kingdom's dedication to enhancing the lives of its young citizens. Through these measures, Saudi Arabia continues to demonstrate its determination to foster an environment where every child can grow and flourish, free from harm and full of opportunity.
